My Ultimate Author Dreams

As we are still getting to know each other, I thought I would give you a little insight into my dreams of becoming an author. These are little (or big) things I want to accomplish as a writer. If I can cross all of these off, I don’t know what else I could accomplish (but by that time, I probably will have though of some more..)

Some I could actually already accomplish today (or tomorrow, better said), others will take quite some work to get there, but they’re doable. With a few in particular however, I literally have no say. It just depends on how my stories will be received by the world and how successful my novels will become.

So without further ado, here are my 10 ultimate goals:

  • Earn a full-time income with writing
    • Isn’t this possibly every writer’s dream? Although I do enjoy my current job, becoming a full-time author has probably been one of my dreams since I was about 12 years old. Maybe even earlier. Now the income won’t just be from selling my books. It will be an accumulation of different income streams (including the one listed below), but I would still considered that as a success.
  • Have a designated space for writing
    • This is one that I could actually already accomplish today or tomorrow. And I kind of already do. But this is also the space where I am working on this blogpost or when I am working on other content creation or even admin stuff. So I want to have a separate desk or maybe even a really comfy lounge chair to sit down and truly focus on my writing craft. It’s one of the simpler dreams, maybe not even a dream, but then it’s probably the most important one. Nothing on this list will be possible if I don’t have comfortable space to write at.
  • Host a book signing
    • This is kind of a wild card. I LOVE the idea, but lil’ ole’ introvert me will probably chicken out. Though it would be the best way to get to know my (future) readers.
  • Go on a writer’s retreat
    • Another one that I could check off quite soon. It’s just a matter of booking a trip (and choosing if I wanna go solo or go with someone). I do already have some plans to just go on vacation this year, so a writer’s retreat might go in the books for 2025. I’m thinking some Mediterranean island or possibly (the complete opposite) Scotland.
  • Get on a bestseller’s list
    • I mean, come on, this is a no-brainer right? Doesn’t really matter which one. The New York Times seems REALLY far-fetched right now. But then again, so does every other bestseller list. So if it’s even only a local list, I’m good. Hahaha. Although maybe that’s even harder as I am writing in English, but local lists are mostly for Dutch books.
  • Have my book adapted into a TV show / movie
    • Having a book really come to life sounds soooo awesome! And of course, I would prefer to cast my favourite actors, but I don’t think that’s exactly how the industry works. But having your own little world turned into something that everyone can watch. It’s just a little different than people reading your book, I think.
  • Write a TV / movie script
    • Now, this doesn’t have to be the adaptation to one of future books. But I have always loved the idea of writing a script. It is a different kind of writing, you can’t really put on paper how a character is feeling or how a house is looking. That’s the task of the videography.
  • Create my own merchandise and host a webshop
    • I love stationery and merch, and combined with my background in supply chain/logistics, I would really like to manage a webshop. Package all the products nicely, send them on their way to somewhere across the world.
  • Write one or more book series
    • I don’t know about you, but I LOVE book series. There’s just something about it. I guess it’s kind of the same with TV shows. I prefer them over movies (although I do also like movie series, like Marvel). So I would love to write series and build out a world like that. Or like the books by Elena Armas (author of The Spanish Love Deception). Books that can be read separately, but the characters make cameos in each book.
  • Have a great online community of readers and writer friends 🙂
    • I just want to create something that feels like a big friend group, where we can all talk about our favourite books, tv shows and movies.

So, I am going to work my hardest to make these dreams come true. And I will talk to you in let’s say 10 years and see how far I’ve come? 😉 Hahaha, no, just kidding. Of course, I will be talking to you sooner. Keep an eye out for new blogposts every Wednesday for more insider’s info on my dreams and my journey.
